Alyson Dixon made her Olympic debut at Rio 2016, competing in the women’s marathon where the Sunderland-born athlete finished as the best-placed Briton in 28th place, with a time of 2:34:11.

She started to take her athletics career to the elite level while at university and got her first international call up aged 29.

In 2011 Aly won the Brighton Marathon but she narrowly missed out on selection for London 2012.

Two years later she raced for England at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

While at the 2017 World Championships, in London, she led the marathon race right up until the final nine miles, before eventually finishing 18th.

In September 2019 Alyson won the 50km world championship in Brasov, Romania with a time of 3:07:20 and is the current 50km world record holder.

    We ordered a video for our running club members to help motivate them during lock down. Aly’s video was very inspirational, and she really engaged with our athletes. Thanks Aly!!
